Antártida Inmersiva es un proyecto cultural, creado para que puedas sentir la experiencia de visitar la Antártida sin moverte de tu lugar. El proyecto nace en 2022 y gracias al auspicio de INOCAR, su primera producción se realizó en la Estación Científica Pedro Vicente Maldonado, de Ecuador.

What is Immersive Antarctica?

Immersive Antarctica is an audiovisual research to recreate a visit to the continent through an immersive experience that allows users to explore it in first person, from a human perspective. The pilot project offers a virtual tour that, through the use of immersive multimedia resources, transports students, teachers and the general public to Greenwich Island where the Ecuadorian Research Station is located.

The Immersive Antarctica experience focuses on generating an immersive visual environment that motivates free and playful exploration of Antarctica. Through 360º images, photographs, videos and 3D images, users can enter the Pedro Vicente Maldonado Research Station, its surrounding landscape and other emblematic places of the Antarctic region.

The main objective is to awaken interest and curiosity about Antarctica, as well as to promote awareness of the environmental and scientific importance of this region. It also disseminates information about Ecuador’s participation in Antarctic projects and promotes reflection on the political and environmental situation in Antarctica.

SCAR OSC 2024 attendees can be part of this experience through the use of their mobile devices or virtual reality helmet.

It is hoped that this immersive experience accessible to all will contribute to cultural and scientific dissemination, encouraging interest and reflection on Antarctica and its global relevance, and can be scaled to involve other international initiatives in the Antarctic territory.

Immersive Antarctica is a project that was created at 0º latitude, in Quito-Ecuador, and aims to reach the antarctic polar circle.
The pilot project was carried out at 62ºS on Greenwich Island, where a virtual visit to Pedro Vicente Maldonado Research Station was conducted., as part of the XXVI Ecuadorian Antarctic Expedition.

The Immersive Antarctica project received logistical sponsorship from INOCAR to be part of the XXVI Ecuadorian Antarctic Expedition, and was based at Pedro Vicente Maldonado Scientific Station.
